Kristina Oberzan is a renowned and accomplished jazz singer/songwriter originally from Slovenia, although her education, experience, skills, breadth and depth of musical knowledge, as well as her undoubted singing talent, demonstrate much more. She is equally adept with soul, blues, country and pop, with an envious and diverse repertoire to hand…..
Kristina obtained a Master’s Degree in Jazz Singing from the University for the Performing Arts & Music of Graz, Austria in 2007. She has won many international singing awards and scholarships, including the Berklee School of Music in Boston, USA. Prior to that, in 2006, she won the prize for Best Interpretation at the Slovenska Popevka Festival.
Her first album, ‘Kakor Lep Roman‘ (‘Like A Beautiful Novel‘) was released by ZKP RTV in 2007, dedicated to Slovenian music. As a soloist, she frequently collaborates with Big Bands such as RTV Slovenia as well as with other foreign musicians.
Aside from her singing career, Kristina also teaches. From 2008 to 2011 she was Professor for Jazz & Pop Singing at the Conservatory for Music & Ballet and The St Stanislav Institute in Ljubljana.
In 2010 she received her certificate for teaching the vocal technique known as ‘Speech Level Singing‘ from the Seth Riggs Speech Level organisation in Los Angeles.
2011 to 2014 saw Kristina dedicate herself to practising and developing her art, as Lead Singer/Musician for cruise line companies such as AIDA, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian, before returning to Slovenia to write and record her new album, ‘My Heart Knew‘.
Kristina now splits her time between Ljubljana & London and continues to teach, having just completed work as a Vocal Coach for the young people’s singing talent contest ‘Razred Talentov‘ on Slovenia’s Planet TV channel.
